Calvin W. "Cal" Henne, 87, of Bridgeport, died Thursday, February 3, 2011, at the Morrill County Community Hospital in Bridgeport, Nebraska.
At his request, cremation was at Jolliffe Funeral Home and Crematory in Scottsbluff, Nebraska. No visitation is scheduled but the family will be receiving friends for a time of fellowship at the Bridgeport Eagles on Sunday, February 6, 2011 from 1pm until 3pm. A private family inurnment will be held in the Nebraska State Veterans Cemetery in Alliance with military honors by the Nebraska National Guard Funeral Honor Guard.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in Cal's name.
Cal was born on August 6, 1923, in Ainsworth to Fred and Mamie (Hulshizer) Henne. He grew up in Ainsworth and graduated high school in 1942.
Cal entered the United States Army on May 27, 1943, at Fort Crook, Nebraska. He served in Central Europe during World War II and was honorably discharged on April 2, 1946. He then returned to Nebraska and later attended Wayne State College where he earned his bachelor's degree. He married Hazel Duval in May 1952 in Arnold, Nebraska.
Cal taught and served as principal in Arnold, Mullen, Wauneta, and finally Bridgeport. During this time, he earned his master's degree from Chadron State College. He loved hunting, fishing, and was well known for his wood working and attended craft shows for 24 years. He was a member of the Eagles, American Legion #29 and V.F.W Post #7786 in Bridgeport.
Cal is survived by his wife, Hazel of Bridgeport; daughter, Joleen (Rich) Slee of Chadron; sons, Ken (Jean) Henne of Bridgeport and William Henne of Rolla, MO; daughter-in-law, Sherry Henne of Bridgeport; seven grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, two brothers; one sister; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Kevin Henne; one sister and two brothers.
